A Move to the USA
In 2024, B* and I (A*) embarked on a new chapter, moving from India to the USA. This cross-cultural transition was guided by a deep sense of God’s leading–also allowing us to fulfill a promise we made to our children fourteen years ago.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our two oldest children expressed their desire to return to the US—their country of birth—for their undergraduate studies. We knew this would be a challenging transition for them, especially as the US has changed significantly since we moved back to India. We felt it was important to provide them with a stable home base during this critical, cultural shift– to guide them as hands-on, supportive, faithful, and caring parents.
When we moved to India years ago to serve God, we informed our children that, with our meager income in India, we would not be able to leave them a financial inheritance. However, we promised them that we would, by the grace of God, ensure they graduated college debt-free. By 2024, it became clear that fulfilling this promise would require us to move back to the US. Through prayer, we felt God calling us to take this step.
This decision was not without deep pain. Leaving behind our parents, a beloved community of believers, and the meaningful ministry work we were part of was heartbreaking. Yet, we trusted God’s invitation into a new season. In June 2024, we relocated to a rural town in Minnesota, which we now are beginning to call home.
B* is working as an ER doctor here, a role that offers her the flexibility to continue her vital work in India. She travels 3–4 times a year to lead free, fixative surgical camps in South Asia. If you haven’t seen the video about these camps, I encourage you to watch it: https://vimeo.com/1035754983. We’re grateful for the warm community and new friendships God is blessing us with in this season.
I (A*) remain committed to serving God’s mission in South Asia. My primary role is providing pastoral care to senior field leaders and supporting executive leadership across Nepal, India, and Bhutan. While much of this can be done through online video calls—thank God for modern technology—I also plan to travel to South Asia several times a year to be with leaders and on the mission fields in person.
Meanwhile, while here in the US, I am seeking opportunities to expand our network of friends and partners. Together, we can achieve so much more—reaching unreached tribes, training leaders, caring for orphans and widows, digging clean water wells, and bringing literacy to underserved villages. If you feel led, I’d love for you to prayerfully consider introducing me to friends, small groups, or churches with a heart for missions.
The ministries in South Asia are thriving—far beyond what I anticipated. Leadership development has been our focus, and the new team of leaders is driving the work forward with excellence and a growth mindset. My involvement in day-to-day leadership has diminished to a great extent, allowing me to focus on pastoral care and occasional conflict resolution for senior leaders. My greatest contribution, while I am in the US, is to also foster new partnerships to ensure the work of building God’s Kingdom among the unreached and oppressed continues to flourish. I need your prayers and help with this endeavor.
We plan to remain in the US for the next eight years, aligning with B*’s contract with the hospital here. This is also well-timed, as our youngest child will graduate from college that year. At that point, we will prayerfully discern, alongside our fellow leaders, where God is calling us next.
As we walk this journey, we remain grateful for God’s guidance and the opportunity to serve Him in new ways. Thank you for your love and friendship. I seek your continued prayers and support.
